New series

Anna McNeil’s stirring works centre around a quest for identity. Intimacy, communication, displacement and rites of passage have powerful roles to play in the artist’s work. Allowing her emotions to manifest on the canvas, conflicting feelings of longing, safety, nostalgia, inspiration, fear, love and loss manifest throughout the creative process. Sourcing from mnemonic imagery and found visual resources, McNeil plays with both figurative and abstract language, employing the power of suggestion to engage the viewer in a dialogue with each painting. Working between studios in Barcelona and London, the Scottish-born painter has exhibited widely throughout the UK and Europe. She was awarded the Jacksons Art Prize for figurative painting in 2021 and has won two Humlet Saula Collection Awards. She has several paintings in the Soho House collection and further private and public collections worldwide.
