Andrew Hood
Drawing inspiration from both British and international landscapes, Andrew Hood transforms overlooked scenes into compelling artworks. His early background in graphic design and illustration has profoundly shaped his approach to fine art, where he blends texture, light, and memory to evoke a sense of beauty in the everyday.
From soothing sunrises over the Thames to dynamic depictions of the city's suburbs, Hood will be showing a selection of vibrant paintings of the capital. Further from home, the artist presents a series of paintings inspired by his travels across Europe from Lucca to The Loire.

Kate Evans
Delicate line drawings and watercolour washes set against large areas of negative space; Kate Evans' work is at once mysterious and masterful. Informed by her background as an illustrator, this mixed media artist creates magical scenes with an emphasis on mark making.
Inspired by her surroundings (both far and wide), Evans will be showing a selection of barns in vast landscapes from her trips to Canada, alongside a series of tree studies from Constantine Woods near Falmouth. A selection of abstracted designs taken from the patterns on the trunks of trees, these tangles of natural forms use a majestic mix of watercolour, ink and oil.

Julie Mai
Our latest signing at First Contemporary, Julie Mai is a Canadian artist based in the mountain village of Fornalutx, Mallorca. A self-taught painter, Mai's practice has evolved over two decades of creating - slowly evolving into the dynamic abstract works she produces today.
Working primarily in mixed media, Mai has recently returned to the storied art of encaustic hot wax painting - a technique developed by the ancient Greeks. At once mindful and energetic, Mai will be showing a series of abstract works in this unique medium, the translucency of the pigment dancing with the changing light of its environment.
