Views of the South West.

Online Exhibition

Views of the South West brings together the work of four artists unable to resist

the pull of the countryside and coastline of the South West of England. From the picturesque meadows of Failand to the unspoiled beaches of the

South Hams and over the border to the idyllic fishing towns of Cornwall,

this exhibition celebrates the beautiful and diverse scenery the region has to offer from each artist's perspective.

Andrew Hood

Fowey and St Ives

Andrew's new body of work focuses on the landscape and architecture of small Cornish towns, such as St Ives and Fowey. The frantic human busyness depicted in Andrew’s cityscapes gives way to the more elemental rhythms of the Cornish coastal landscape in this series.

“Painting in Cornwall does make me appreciate what a beautiful country we have and I think it makes me spend more time near the coast. The more I go the more I want to go back.“

Elaine Jones

South Hams

Elaine’s new collection of paintings explore the colour palettes and terrain of the South Hams, juxtaposing the texture of rocky and raw coastline with much softer, gentler shapes.

Whilst Devon has long been a source of inspiration for Elaine, it was the spring colours that really caught her attention on a trip to Salcombe earlier this year.

“I was particularly inspired by the tremendous views from the cliffs when out walking, with clear blue skies and the ocean contrasting with rolling English hills and woodland.”

Tom Hughes

North Cornwall and Devon

The lure of the coast is so strong for Tom that he will wake up at 4:30am to escape the city and make it to North Cornwall for sunrise.

Colour comes to the fore in Tom's coastal pieces as he strives to capture the stunning Cornish light and subtle shifts in hue as the coastline recedes to the horizon.

Anna Boss

Summer in Failand

Anna came across the village of Failand a year ago, and every return visit throughout the seasons offers a new experience of this landscape.

Anna's new works are imbued with a sense of the long hazy days of summer. Paths wind their way through tall grasses and alongside lush woodland, giving a feeling of being enveloped in the landscape.
