Dorcas Casey

Dorcas Casey graduated from Winchester School of Art in 2011 with a First Class Honours degree in Sculpture. In 2013 she was awarded a bursary with the Royal British Society of Sculptors and has shown work widely throughout the UK and abroad. Dorcas was the Public Speaks winner 2013 at Broomhill National Sculpture Prize and shortlisted for the Jerwood Makers Open in 2015. Her Ram Head sculpture has been selected for the Columbia Threadneedle Prize in the Mall Galleries in February 2016.

Dorcas explores themes of dreams and the unconscious. She works intuitively to transform familiar, domestic materials and unusual found objects into her sculptures, favouring craft-based techniques like hand stitching. She likes the idea of discarded and marginal things returning as powerful presences and attempts to capture the ambiguous nature of dream images by creating sculptures which are poised awkwardly between the realms of the familiar and the uncanny.
