My work is inspired by an emotional response to the natural world, in particular to the quality of light. I draw in the landscape, collecting information about particular places which have meaning for me. I want to put into the paintings the experience of being there, the weather, sounds, smells and the process of walking through the landscape, as much as what I can see. Back in my studio, I use the drawings to help focus my memory, but don’t work directly from them I find it works better to put the source material aside and to paint intuitively. I am based in Kent but often travel to different parts of the UK, for example to Scotland or Cornwall, to draw and gather material there.

I completed a BA in Fine Art at Kent Institute of Art and Design in Canterbury, and gained my MA in Fine Art at Christchurch College, Canterbury. I have shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Discerning Eye, the Threadneedle Prize, the New English Art Club, the Hunting Art Prize, the Affordable Art Fair and the Royal West of England Open exhibitions, and have work in galleries in London and across the UK, as well as in private collections.
